• How do I get started?

    1. Sign up for free. You can purchase our hosting service when everything is uploaded, tested and ready to go online.

    2. Create websites for each of your films. You only need to provide a film title. That will automatically create a subdomain name for you. You can add more film websites to your account, by clicking on "Add new film" under MY FILMS.

    3. Encode and upload your film, as well as your trailer. If you want, you can order the encoding service for each of your films through the FILM tab. How do I order the encoding service? Then mail us your DVD with your film and trailer and we'll encode and upload them for you.

    4. Manage your film materials: logo, description, poster, photos, credits, blog, festivals. To manage your film materials click on Edit of the respective film under MY FILMS.

    5. Order the hosting service for each of your films through the WEBSITE tab to activate your websites. How do I subscribe to the hosting service?

  • How do I sign up?

    Your username is your email address.

  • How do I get my films to you?

    You can encode and upload your films for free. Please follow our tutorial on How to encode your film.

    Once you have encoded your film and trailer, you can upload them yourself. How do I upload my film and tailer?

    If you want to save time and assure best video quality and streaming experience you can order the encoding service (for one film and one trailer) and we'll handle the encoding and uploading for you. How do I order the encoding service?

    Once you have ordered the encoding service, you can mail us your DVD to the address below. Please make sure you label your DVDs with the film title, your name and the email that you have used for your sign up.

  • How do I encode my film and trailer?

    You can upload almost any type of a video file to filmbinder, it's really up to you. However, if you want to make sure that your film plays on all major browsers, please follow our tutorial on How to encode your film. Each mp4 file contains many internal flags that need to be set properly, otherwise your encoded file may not play on some browser configurations (such as Safari for iPhone), or it may not be able to skip forward.

  • How do I upload my film and trailer?

    Log in. Go to MY FILMS. Click on Edit. Select the FILM tab. Click on Upload film / Upload trailer. Choose a file. The upload will start automatically. As soon as you have uploaded the film or trailer a Watch link will appear that allows you to view your film and check, if it streams well.

  • I cannot upload my film.

    This could be due to one of the following reasons:

    1. You use a wrong file format. Please follow our tutorial on How to encode your film.

    2. You have an unstable internet connection. Try uploading at a different time. Try uploading from an university or corporate network. Consider our encoding service and mail us a DVD. How do I get my films to you?

    If you still encounter any difficulties, please Contact us and give us as much information as you can. What kind of issue do you encounter? Where in the process did you encounter those issues? What browser do you use? What internet connection do you use? What kind of file did you upload? etc. The more information we get the better we'll be able to assist.

  • How do I subscribe to the hosting service?

    First, you need to Sign Up and create websites for your films.

    If that is done, Log in. Go to MY FILMS. Click on Edit. Select the WEBSITE tab. Click on one of the subscription plans. This will carry you to PayPal. Once you have subscribed, your film website will go online immediately.

  • How do I order the encoding service?

    First, you need to Sign Up and create websites for your films.

    If that is done, Log in. Go to MY FILMS. Click on Edit. Select the FILM tab. Click on Purchase encoding and upload service. This will carry you to PayPal.

  • I cannot watch the film.

    This could be due to one of the following reasons:

    1. You have a slow internet connection. Let the film buffer for a while before you start watching it. The gray progress bar shows you how much of the film is pre-buffered. For very slow connections, such as DSL, you may need to wait until the whole film is pre-buffered so that it plays smoothly.

    2. You are not using the latest browser. We recommend using Safari or Google Chrome. Also please make sure that you have the latest Flash plug-in installed as well.

    If you still encounter any difficulties, please Contact us and give us as much information as you can. What kind of issue do you encounter? Where in the process did you encounter those issues? What browser do you use? What internet connection do you use? etc. The more information we have the more we can help you.

  • How do I add a logo?

    Log in. Go to MY FILMS. Click on Edit. Select the WEBSITE tab. Go to Film website logo. Choose file. Click on Save.

    If you want, you can Download site logo template for Photoshop.

    We recommend a PNG image 1008 pixels wide by 80 pixels high. JPEG, TIFF, PSD and PDF are also accepted. 5 MB maximum file size.

  • How do I add a poster?

    Log in. Go to MY FILMS. Click on Edit. Select the FILM tab. Go to Poster. Choose file. Click on Save.

    We recommend a PNG image 300 pixels wide by 400 pixels high. JPEG, TIFF, PSD and PDF are also accepted. 10 MB maximum file size.

  • How do I add photos?

    Log in. Go to MY FILMS. Click on Edit. Select the PHOTO tab. Add Caption. Choose file. Click on Add photo. You can drag and drop photos to reorder them.

    We recommend a PNG image 800 pixels wide by 600 pixels high. JPEG, TIFF, PSD and PDF are also accepted. 5 MB maximum file size.

  • How do I add credits?

    Log in. Go to MY FILMS. Click on Edit. Select the CREDITS tab. Add name. Click on Add credit. You can drag and drop credits to reorder them.

  • How do I use the blog?

    Log in. Go to MY FILMS. Click on Edit. Select the BLOG tab. Add title. Add post. Click on Add article.

  • How do I add festivals?

    Log in. Go to MY FILMS. Click on Edit. Select the FESTIVALS tab. Add festival name and link to festival page. Go to Attach logo. Choose file. Click on Add festival. You can drag and drop festivals to reorder them.

    We recommend a PNG image 150 pixels wide by 50 pixels high. JPEG, TIFF, PSD and PDF are also accepted. 0.5 MB maximum file size. You can also download festival logo template for Photoshop here.

  • How do I delete my Film, Trailer, Poster, or Logo?

    Just upload a new one. That will replace the old one. If you want to completely remove your film, trailer, poster, or logo, please Contact us and we will remove it for you.

  • How do I set the rental price?

    Log in. Go to MY FILMS. Click on Edit. Select the FILM tab. Go to Pay Per View. Add a rental price. Click on Save.

  • How do I set the rental period?

    Log in. Go to MY FILMS. Click on Edit. Select the FILM tab. Go to Pay Per View. Select a rental period from the picklist. Click on Save.

  • How do I switch of renting?

    Log in. Go to MY FILMS. Click on Edit. Select the FILM tab. Go to Pay Per View. "Uncheck" renting is active.

  • How do I add Google Analytics?

    Create a Google Analytics account. Click on Add new profile. Add the subdomain of your film website. Click on Continue. Copy your Google Analytics code.

    Log in to your filmbinder account. Go to MY FILMS. Click on Edit. Select the WEBSITE tab. Paste your Google Analytics code. Click on Save.

  • How do I block territories?

    Log in. Go to MY FILMS. Click on Edit. Select the FILM tab. Click on Show list of territories. Unselect territories. Click on Save.

  • How do I send free passes?

    Log in. Go to MY FILMS. Click on Edit. Select the PASSES tab. Add email. Click on Send free pass. An email will go out to the respective recipient, along with a unique back link to watch your film for free. Once the recipient uses the back link it will be active only for the period of time that you specify under the FILM tab.

    If you want to give a bunch of people access to your films at once, then use the free promotional code. How do I offer a free promotional code

  • How do I offer a free promotional code?

    You can set a free promotional code that you can send out to people that gives them free access. They just need to enter the code when they want to watch the film. Be aware that they might share the code with others. You can delete the code anytime.

    Log in. Go to MY FILMS. Click on Edit. Select the FILM tab. Go to Free promotional code. Enter free promotional code. Click on Save.

    If you want to give people access to your films only once, then use free passes. How do I send free passes?

  • How do I add additional information?

    You can add additional information to your film website, for example to tell your customers how they can access a DVD at a discounted price, or to post cross links to your other films. This information will show up when your customers rent the film.

    Log in. Go to MY FILMS. Click on Edit. Select the FILM tab. Go to Additional information. Add additional text. Click on Save.

  • How do I add a Watch Now button on my website?

    You can add a Watch Now button on your website and use filmbinder as your pay per view checkout.
